The monograph presents information on the international Russian-Finnish-Swedish project "Developing environmental and geodynamical safety related to mine closure in the Barents region" performed during 2012-2014 under the Kolarctik ENPI CBC Program.
It gives a brief description of mining industrial complex of the Murmansk region and assessment of a new issue concerning closure of a part of underground mines and open-pits belonging to the complex.
The methods and results of investigation of mine, ground and surface waters, as well as soils in the Russian case study object ("Umbozero" mine) after its closure, are presented.
Special attention was paid to assessment of geodynamical impact of "Umbozero" mine on the host rock massif.
Specific recommendations are given to provide for environmental protection at mines closure in the Barents region.
